Magna Surgical Center is a Joint Commission-accredited, multi-specialty surgery center that has provided services in Chicago since 1987. The Center contains 3 operating rooms and 21 recovery bays with both beds and chairs for recovering patients. The hours of operation are 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  

Our Patients

The patient population includes adult patients, geriatric patients, and pediatric patients from age two to eighteen undergoing the following pediatric procedures: circumcision revision, primary circumcision, and minor procedures such as skin and cervical/inguinal node biopsies. Multiple cultural groups are served, and the Center can arrange for specialized services including language translation, sign language, mobility assistance, literary assistance and vision assistance.​

Magna Surgical Center accommodates a wide range of surgical specialties. Currently the list includes but is not limited to:

Surgical Specialties

  • CLIA-Waived Testing –urine pregnancy testing, blood glucose testing, and blood hematocrit testing as needed.
  • EKG – as needed
  • Nursing assessment and therapeutic modalities including medication administration and pain management.
  • Anesthesia - The anesthesia services are provided exclusively by Ambulatory Anesthesiologists of Chicago (AAOC), a group of ambulatory-only specialty anesthesiologists. AAOC is an independent contractor of the Center and is not employed by the Center. Within AAOC there is significant experience in the management of all ambulatory surgical and bariatric patients with the requisite skills for such specialized care.

  • Patients visiting the facility are scheduled for their procedures by their physicians. Only physicians who are active members of the Medical Staff and for whom the privilege to perform the scheduled procedure(s) has been delineated and approved by the Medical Executive Committee and the Board of Managers may schedule patients to undergo p

  • Patients visiting the facility are scheduled for their procedures by their physicians. Only physicians who are active members of the Medical Staff and for whom the privilege to perform the scheduled procedure(s) has been delineated and approved by the Medical Executive Committee and the Board of Managers may schedule patients to undergo procedures at Magna Surgical Center.  
  • ​Collaborative relationships between the physician’s office and the Center staff are instrumental in providing patient information during the scheduling, admission, treatment and discharge processes.

  • Patients are admitted to the Center by their physician who is an active member of the Medical Staff. Only licensed physicians and affiliated healthcare professionals who have undergone a rigorous credentialing process are accepted on Staff at the Center.
  • The Center uses the American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Classification Sys

  • Patients are admitted to the Center by their physician who is an active member of the Medical Staff. Only licensed physicians and affiliated healthcare professionals who have undergone a rigorous credentialing process are accepted on Staff at the Center.
  • The Center uses the American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Classification System to assess candidates for ambulatory surgery.​
  • Patients are evaluated at the time of admission by a registered nurse, anesthesiologist and the surgeon incorporating and confirming medical information obtained through pre-admission phone interviews and data collected from the surgeon and primary care physician. CLIA-waived testing is performed as necessary. Patients with an acceptable admission evaluation are cleared for surgery.

  • Patients undergo the scheduled procedure by their surgeon and are received in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit according to specific recovery protocols. Patient discharge is approved by the on-site anesthesiologist, present until every patient has been discharged.

  •  Patients receive discharge instructions as specified by their surgeon. 
  • Patients are required to have an adult accompany them at discharge so that they are supervised until safely at home.
